Chip Repairs
Damage is smaller than a quarter
Damage is more than 4 inches away from the edge of the glass
Keeps the damage from getting larger or splitting the glass
Normally if your windshield damage is the size of a quarter or less, it is a candidate for repair. Windshield chip repair is a process of injecting a resin to “glue” the void or cracks back together to keep the damage from spreading. It is not designed to be a cosmetic repair, but is a structural repair to the glass. Normally the damage is less visible after the repair is performed. In rare instances, during the process of injecting the resin, the pressure will cause the cracks to spread. I estimate that this happens in <5% of repair attempts. It doesn’t happen often, but it does happen. If this happens we will credit $50 towards your windshield replacement.
Things you should know before getting your windshield replaced.
Make sure the company is Licensed and Insured
Ask what tool is used to remove the broken windshield. (If they use a Cold Knife or Reciprocating tool, chances are high that they will damage your paint or worse) We use a wire or Fiber Line tool to avoid any damage to your vehicle. It costs us more, but its worth it to avoid damage.
What type of adhesive are they using? The only allowable adhesive is Urethane. We only use Dow Automotive Urethane in either a 30 Minute Dive time or a 2 Hour Drive time depending on the situation. Many less expensive urethanes have up to 24 hour drive time and unethical companies will not inform the customer putting your family in danger.
How long has the company been in business? Everyone says they have a “Lifetime Warranty”, but we have seen dozens of companies come and go over the years. The suppliers will sell to anyone, and everybody thinks they are a glass guy. Unfortunately, there are no regulations for glass replacement in Georgia.
If your vehicle is equipped with any Driver Assist Technology such as Lane Departure or Pedestrian Avoidance systems, Your camera MUST be calibrated to assure the system is working properly. Many companies will tell you that it is unnecessary, but this is not the case and puts your family at risk.
Do your research!! As stated previously, Georgia does not regulate Windshield Replacement. There are a LOT of questionable “companies” that we run into at the suppliers. They can fudge social media or Google or work under someone elses name , but you do not want these companies cutting into your vehicle in your driveway.
Ask if the company sublets their work out. There are day workers that hang out at the warehouse that will pick up overflow jobs. They cut corners and are looking to do the job as cheaply as possible because they have no responsibility once they leave your home.
